Digital Equity & Education

Digital equity and computer literacy are crucial in today’s interconnected world, ensuring everyone can participate fully in the digital age.

Digital equity refers to the fair and equal access to digital technologies and the internet, ensuring that all individuals and communities have the information technology capacity needed to participate fully in society. It encompasses not just access to devices and connectivity but also the availability of high-quality technical support and the ability to use digital tools effectively. This concept is crucial as it addresses disparities that can arise from socioeconomic, geographic, or demographic factors, striving to eliminate the digital divide that can hinder opportunities for education, employment, and civic engagement.

Computer literacy involves having the knowledge and skills required to use computers and related technology efficiently. This includes a basic understanding of computer operations, software applications, internet navigation, and digital communication tools. Computer literacy is an essential component of digital literacy, which broadly encompasses the ability to use technology to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information.

Together, digital equity and computer literacy aim to empower individuals by providing the necessary tools and skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

By hosting classes annually, we provide invaluable resources and support to individuals who may otherwise be left behind. Our Seniors Exploring Technology and Keyboarding Fundamentals classes offer access to technology and empower participants by enhancing their skills, boosting their confidence, and opening up new opportunities for personal and professional growth. In doing so, we help bridge the digital divide, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone can thrive in the digital landscape.

Our commitment to this cause recognizes the transformative power of technology in shaping a better future for all.

Keyboarding Fundamentals

4-week session will focus on three essential points for keyboarding:

  • Proper Finger Placement: Place your fingers on the home row keys (A, S, D, F for the left hand and J, K, L, ; for the right hand). This helps ensure that your fingers are in the optimal position for efficient typing.
  • Maintain Good Posture: Sit up straight with your feet flat on the floor. Keep your wrists slightly elevated and avoid resting them on the keyboard or desk to prevent strain and improve typing speed.
  • Consistent Practice: Regular practice is key to improving your keyboarding skills.
Engage in daily typing exercises, focus on accuracy before speed, and use typing games or software to make practice enjoyable.
